Wooster Field Hockey Weathers Rainstorm, Defeats Oberlin 1-0
The College of Wooster field hockey team was able to play through a driving rainstorm on Sept. 29 to win its fifth game in its last six contests, defeating Oberlin 1-0.
The match, which was delayed 30 minutes due to thunder and lightning, was played fairly evenly with the Scots taking 16 shots and having six penalty corners and the Yeowomen taking eight shots and having eight penalty corners.
In the first half, the Scots scored what would turn out to be the game's only goal off a direct corner. Sophomore midfielder Linnea Bloom was able to put classmate Miriam Esber's shot in from the corner.
Junior goalkeeper Melissa Goodwin and the Wooster defense made the score hold up. Goodwin finished the match with a total of four saves en route to her fourth shutout of the 1999 campaign.
