Scots lose in championship match of Hilltop Tourney
After defeating Hanover 9-0 in the first round of the Hilltop Tournament, the Fighting Scots succumbed 3-0 in the championship match to host University of the South yesterday afternoon.
The Tigers got off to a quick start with a goal by Katherine Kelly less than five minutes into the match. Then, the South—s Christy Frazier scored at the 13:50 mark of the first half to make it a 2-0 lead. Eliza Colson added another goal for the Tigers just 92 seconds after Frazier—s goal.
The second half was a different story, as the Scots controlled the ball and out shot the University of the South 10-9. But, Wooster was unable to put the ball past the Tigers— stingy goaltender Jaclyn Williams, as she made five saves in the second half to preserve the shut out.
On the opposite side of the field, Scot junior goalkeeper Melissa Goowin (Newburyport, Mass. / Newburyport) faced 25 shots total and tallied 12 saves on the afternoon.
