Emily White's two second half goals gives her five on the young season. |
After a three-game season-opening road trip, The College of Wooster field hockey team played its first home contest of the 2000 campaign on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 9), and defeated SUNY Brockport 3-1 behind the continued solid play from junior Emily White.
White, who entered the game as the team's leading scorer, fired the ball into the back of the net twice early in the second half to give Wooster a commanding 2-0 lead. She was assisted by senior Amanda Bernardon on the first score and by junior Miriam Esber on the second.
Brockport cut the lead to one with 16:15 remaining in regulation, but Bernardon tallied her third goal of the year off a pass from Esber to put the game away late in the second half.
Senior Melissa Goodwin made five saves in net on the afternoon for the Scots.
Wooster, which won its third straight match to move to 3-1 on the year, will play next at Mercyhurst on Tuesday (Sept. 12) with game-time set for 4:30 p.m.
