A goal by Denison University senior Keri Arnold 4:08 into the first overtime gave the Big Red an important 2-1 victory over host College of Wooster in North Coast Athletic Conference field hockey action on Saturday (Sept. 30).

With the win, Denison improves to 4-1 in league play and now owns an overall record of 5-5. Wooster, on the other hand, sees it hopes for an NCAC title virtually disappear, as it slips back to 3-3 in conference play and 4-5 overall.

Arnold, who is the Big Red's leading scorer with 15 points on six goals and three assists, was helped out on the game-winning score with a neatly-fed pass from classmate Sarah Rent.

It appeared for quite awhile that a goal by freshman Sarah Lowell just 2:05 into the game would be all Denison would need to pull out the win. But, with regulation time winding down, junior Emily White knotted the match on an unassisted goal to extend the game into overtime.

Despite the loss, senior goalkeeper Melissa Goodwin had a solid performance in net for the Scots, as she made 11 saves. Fellow senior Elise Ludwig totaled six saves on the other side of the field.

Wooster will attempt to end its three-game losing streak on Tuesday (Oct. 3) when it travels to Gambier, Ohio, for a match-up against Kenyon College, whom the Scots posted a 4-0 win against earlier this season (Sept. 16).
