Wooster Field Hockey Drops Opener in Overtime
» Box Score
The College of Wooster's field hockey squad opened its 2000 season
by falling to DePauw, traditionally one of the top teams in the Great Lakes
Region, 2-1 in overtime in Greencastle, Ind.
The Scots, who split with the Tigers last season, won the final of
their two meetings in 1999 by an identical 2-1 score in overtime in the
season-ending Midwest Tournament. However, DePauw turned the tables on
Wooster this year.
Trailing 1-0 at halftime, Wooster freshman Katie McCoy made an
immediate mark on her new club, scoring a goal assisted by junior Miriam
Esber, midway through the second half to knot the contest at 1-1.
The score remained tied until the first overtime period, when
Elissa Cady of DePauw scored with an assist from Cara Duckworth on the
Tigers' first shot of the extra period.
Senior Melissa Goodwin held her own in goal for the Scots, stopping
17 shots.
Wooster looks to capture its first win of the season on Sunday,
Sept. 3, when they travel to Richmond, Ind., to play Earlham in a North
Coast Athletic Conference game.
