Senior Emily White ended a personal mini-scoring slump while leading The College of Wooster over Denison University 3-1 in North Coast Athletic Conference action on Saturday (Sept. 22).

White, who was among the nation's leaders in all six major scoring categories last year but had just four points through the first five games of 2001, scored the match's opening goal and then assisted on two others to help Wooster improve to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the conference.

After a scoreless opening half that was played primarily in the middle of the field, White found the back of the net unassisted 11:05 into the second stanza. However, Denison, which is a program that has won or shared each of the last three league championships, came back with a goal by Sarah Lowell off a feed from Courtney Cordeiro with 13:33 left in regulation.

The 1-1 tie didn't last long, though, as the Scots answered immediately when White found sophomore Katie McCoy for what turned out to be the game-winning score. Just 4:19 later, freshman Ashley Hecker put any thoughts of a Big Red comeback away, scoring off another White pass.

In the net for Wooster, freshman Beth Skelton made one save in the first half without allowing a goal, but was pulled for sophomore Becky McAtee, who also produced one save during the second 45 minutes of play en route to the victory. Denison's Sarah Robator totaled 10 saves on the day.

Wooster has a non-conference match scheduled next, as it will host Mercyhurst College on Wednesday (Sept. 26) at 4 p.m.
