Arnold, White Lead Scots Past Earlham
Freshman Ashley Arnold and senior Emily White each registered four points apiece and the defense posted its third shutout of the season, as The College of Wooster field hockey team cruised to a 4-0 victory over host Earlham College in North Coast Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 29).
Arnold opened the scoring for Wooster, now 6-2 overall and second-place in the NCAC standings (4-1), just 2:30 into the contest. She stroked the ball in after receiving a pass from senior Kate Dunne, marking Dunne's second assist of 2001. White scored unassisted 10 minutes later, and then the Scots really opened the floodgates, as Arnold scored on a feed from White to take a 3-0 lead with 19:30 still left in the first half.
Despite dominating Earlham all afternoon and outshooting the Quakers 33-2, Wooster was only able to find the back of the net once more. In the second half, White fed a beautifully threaded pass to junior Lindsay Boardman, who just had to tap the ball in to the goal.
Neither of the Scots' goalies - freshman Beth Skelton or sophomore Becky McAtee - needed to make a save to preserve the shutout.
Wooster continues its Midwest trip on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 30), as it travels to Danville, Ky., for a non-conference match-up against Centre College at 2 p.m.
