Anne Leigh stopped 14 shots, but the Scots were upended by Oberlin in double-overtime.

The College of Wooster field hockey team dropped its second conference game of the season in heartbreaking fashion, losing 2-1 in double overtime to Oberlin College. With the loss, the Scots drop to 4-3 overall and 1-2 in North Coast Athletic Conference play.

The contest was a shootout from the beginning, as both teams combined for 42 on the day. Wooster had the edge by eight (25-17) but found the back of the goal just once. Anlyn Addis knocked home her first goal of the season via a pass from Lindsay Tingley with 3:30 left in the first half, giving the Scots the early advantage. Oberlin battled back, as Kaitlin Barrer found Christine Castilla at 19:45 in the second half to tie the score at 1-1. That’s were the score remained through the rest of regulation and the first overtime.

In the second extra session, the Yeowomen forced the action, coming up with two penalty corners to the Scots zero, and taking the lone shot of the period by either team. That shot was the game-winner, as Claire Cheney knocked in the pass from Meg Reitz.

Although Anne Leigh took the loss, the sophomore goalkeeper had a productive day, stopping 14 shots in 89:40 minutes of action.

The Scots will be in action this Saturday, Sept. 25, as they travel to Wittenberg University for a conference match up, beginning at 6:00 p.m.
