Scots' Weekend Road Trip Highlighted By Win at OWU
The College of Wooster field hockey team returned from its weekend road trip with a split, winning the more important of the two games when Katy Baron scored in overtime to give the Fighting Scots a 1-0 decision over North Coast Athletic Conference foe Ohio Wesleyan University Saturday morning. Wooster went on to Greencastle, Ind., where it lost to DePauw University 2-1 in a non-league affair Sunday. On Saturday, the Scots (4-2, 2-0 NCAC) helped Ohio Wesleyan inaugurate its OmniGrass surface at Selby Field, as the game marked the first intercollegiate event to be played on the Battling Bishops’ new turf. The two defenses dominated, with just six shots by each team being taken during 70 minutes of regulation. A little over four minutes into the first overtime, though, Baron received a pass from Anlyn Addis and pushed the ball past the Ohio Wesleyan goalie for the victory. It was Baron's first goal this season and Addis’ fourth assist. Anne Leigh posted her fourth shutout already this year, making three saves in 74:09 of work. DePauw built a 2-0 lead, including a goal right as time expired at the end of the first half, and then held off a late rally by Wooster. The Scots got on the board on Brittany Montgomery’s team-leading sixth goal this fall with 7:33 to play in regulation, but couldn’t come up with the equalizer. Leigh helped keep Wooster close with 12 saves. The Scots return to NCAC action at home this Wednesday afternoon when Denison University (2-4, 1-1 NCAC) pays its annual visit to Cindy Barr Memorial Field. |
