Wooster Shuts Out the University of the South 5-0 in Season Opener
WOOSTER, Ohio - The College of Wooster field hockey team opened their season Saturday morning by blanking visiting The University of the South by a 5-0 margin at Cindy Barr Memorial Field. Anlyn Addis and Brittany Montgomery both scored a pair of goals in leading The Fighting Scots to victory, while Amanda Artman also added a goal. The Scots wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, with Addis scoring her first goal thirteen minutes into action. Five minutes later, Artman converted a Montgomery assist for the Scots second score at the 17:11 mark. With 2:20 remaining in the first period, Montgomery struck for the Scots with an unassisted goal, vaulting the hosts to a 3-0 halftime lead. The Scots began the second period with Addis' second goal of the afternoon, coming off an Artman assist a little over a minute in to play. Montgomery capped the Scots' stellar performance with the game's final goal with 21:46 remaining in the game. Defensively, Anne Leigh shone in the cage for The Scots, shutting out the Tigers and recording six saves. Tigers' keeper Clarkie Crawford tallied nine saves. Statistically, the Scots out shot the Tigers 15-8 on the afternoon. Wooster returns to action Sunday morning when it hosts Centre College for an 11:00 a.m. match-up. |
