Van Horn Places 22nd as Scots Take Ninth at OWUÍs Strimer Invitational
Andy Van Horn shot a 77 in both the first and second rounds to finish with a 154 overall (8 over par), to earn a tie for 22nd place at Ohio Wesleyan’s Strimer Invitational, leading The College of Wooster golf team to a ninth-place finish out of 17 teams Saturday and Sunday in Delaware, Ohio. Host Ohio Wesleyan won the event with a score of 595, besting runner-up Otterbein College by four strokes (599). Wittenberg University took third, shooting a 614, while Tri-State University placed fourth (615) and Olivet College in fifth (618). Rounding out the top-10 was Mount Union College (621), Allegheny College (622), Transylvania University (625), Wooster (629) and Baldwin-Wallace College (630). Also earning top finishes for the Scots was Erik Shoger, who shot a 75 in Saturday’s opening round before ending Sunday’s competition with an 82 to score a 157 overall, good for 41st place. Matt Mellott placed 51st with a combined score of 160, while Sean Glaser (161) and Patrick Lynch (165) placed 58th and 79th, respectively, as their scores counted towards Wooster’s team total. Earning the individual medallist was Otterbein’s Andy Miller, who shot a one-over par 143. This weekend’s competition was the final tune-up before the Scots begin the 2007 North Coast Athletic Conference Championships, which will be hosted by Wooster May 5-6 at The Legends of Massillon golf course in Massillon, Ohio. |
