The College of Wooster’s Kyle Witucky (Zanesville, Ohio / Zanesville) and Tom Port (Avon Lake, Ohio / Avon Lake) were recently selected to both the National Association of Basketball Coaches’ Great Lakes All-District Team (March 17) and the D3hoops.com All-Great Lakes Region Team (March 15). Witucky earned first-team honors from D3hoops.com, which is voted on by the region’s sports information directors, and second-team accolades from the coaches, while Port picked up second-team recognition from each.

The first regional awards of Witucky’s career come after he averaged 10.0 points and a team-leading 3.7 assists. The three-year starter at point guard saw more court time than any other Wooster player (31.1 minutes per game) and was second in the North Coast Athletic Conference in 3-point field-goal percentage (.467; 64-for-137), only behind teammate Andy Van Horn (.492; 30-for-61). Witucky’s 64 3-pointers made were the second-most in school history, and he also ranked second on the squad in steals (31).

For his career, Witucky has helped guide the Fighting Scots to an 83-10 overall record (.892), while scoring 784 points, including 154 3-pointers, to go with 290 assists and 99 steals. He is on pace to become the 29th player in team history to reach the 1,000-point milestone and finish among the top-three at Wooster in games played, 3-pointers made, 3-point field-goal percentage (.448), and games played.

Port, who also earns “regional” distinction for the first time in his career, was Wooster’s top scorer for the second season in a row, averaging 13.5 points. He fell 10 rebounds and four assists short of leading the team in those categories as well, ranking second in each. More than 40 percent of the forward’s scoring came from 3-pointers (.415), as he knocked down 56 such shots – the seventh-most by a Scot in a single-season. Additionally, Port tied for the squad-high in blocked shots (30) and was third in steals (28).

A two-year player for Wooster, Port has already totaled 836 points (13.9 ppg), 383 rebounds (6.4 rpg), 216 assists (3.6 apg), 59 blocked shots (0.98 per game), and 51 steals (0.85 per game) in 60 games.

The two juniors led the Scots to their best regular season in school history (24-1), which was highlighted by winning the NCAC championship (15-1). Wooster, winners of 27 games overall (27-3), finished just shy in its quest for a fifth “Sweet 16” appearance in the last seven years, as the Scots lost an NCAA Div. III Tournament second-round game to Albion (Mich.) College 59-58.
