Wooster Knocks Off Capital 85-72
WOOSTER, Ohio - The College of Wooster men's basketball team hit a school record 15 three-point field goals on its way to an 85-72 victory over Captial Wednesday night in Columbus, Ohio. The Fighting Scots, who improved to 4-1 overall, connected on half of their three-point attempts, including 8-of-13 in the first half. Starting guards Ryan Snyder (Sebring, Ohio / Sebring McKinley) and Antwyan Reynolds (Mansfield, Ohio / Mansfield Senior) combined to shoot 11-of-17 from behind the arc. Snyder was 6-of-7 on three pointers en route to a game-high 22 points, while Reynolds was 5-of-7 from three-point range on his way to 19 points. Wooster never trailed in the first half and led by as many as 10 points early in the contest, but the Crusaders battled back to cut the Scots' lead at halftime to 42-38. In the second half, Capital erased a seven-point deficit and took its first lead at 49-48 with 15:41 remaining on a field goal by Geoff Glazier. The Crusaders led 60-58 with 9:58 to play when Wooster went on a 7-0 run, sparked by Reynolds' two field goals, one of which was a three-pointer. Capital did cut it to 65-64 with 7:21 to play on a three-pointer by Brent Fahle, but the Crusaders never got any closer, as the Scots scored 20 of the next 24 points to put the game out of reach. Over the final 5:56 of the game, Wooster was a perfect 8-of-8 from the foul line, while Capital was held scoreless for over three and a half minutes. All five starters for Wooster finished in double figures, led by Snyder's 22 points. Junior wing man Steve Thompson (Orrville, Ohio / Rittman) scored 17 points, while freshman forward Bryan Nelson (Kettering, Ohio / Kettering Fairmont) and senior John Ellenwood (Sylvania, Ohio / Sylvania Northview) each finished with 10 points. Chris McGuire led Capital with 20 points, including perfect 12-of-12 shooting from the foul line. Glazier added 16 points and Brad Howe had 11 for Capital, which fell to 4-2 overall. |
