Scots Trounce Thomas More 108-72

WOOSTER, Ohio - The College of Wooster men's basketball team scored its most points in over eight years Saturday afternoon en route to an easy 108-72 victory over visiting Thomas More. The Scots recorded their highest point total since Nov. 22, 1991, when they defeated Oneonta State 115-70.

Wooster jumped out to a 9-2 lead and then used a 15-4 run midway through the first half to go into halftime with a comfortable 47-32 edge. The Scots dominated Thomas More in the second stanza, outscoring the Saints 61-40.

Senior post player John Ellenwood (Sylvania, Ohio / Sylvania Northview) led a group of four Wooster players who reached double figures in points. Ellenwood poured in 24 points, including 8-of-8 shooting from the foul line, to go along with five rebounds.

Scot junior Steve Thompson (Orrville, Ohio / Rittman) scored a career-high 15 points and grabbed five rebounds on the afternoon. Freshman forward Bryan Nelson (Kettering, Ohio / Ketteirng Fairmont) also scored 15 points, while junior guard Nate Gaubatz (Wooster, Ohio / Northwestern) tallied 12 points.

Also for Wooster, sophomore guard Antwyan Reynolds (Mansfield, Ohio / Mansfield) dished out a game-high eight assists, while freshman Matt Smith (Elida, Ohio / Elida) had a team-best four steals.

For Thomas More, Joseph McClain and Mike Topmiller each scored 14 points, while Corey Grace added 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds before fouling out.

Overall, the Scots hit 55.6 percent of their shots from the field, including 20-of-29 field goals in the second half, and had an assist-to-turnover ratio of 24 to 15. Defensively, Wooster held the Saints to a .352 shooting percentage and forced 20 turnovers, 12 of which came on Scot steals.
