Scots Traveling to Adrian Wednesday in Lone Action This Week
After its first loss of the season, The College of Wooster will look to start a new winning streak this week. Just one game is on the slate, as the Fighting Scots will travel to southeastern Michigan on Wednesday, April 2, for a non-conference tilt with Adrian College (1-5) at 6 p.m. This will mark the teams’ first meeting in men’s lacrosse, as Adrian is a first-year program. Last Week: Wooster lost its lone game, which put an end to the season-opening win streak at five. On March 30, junior midfielder Chris Gatsch (Princeton, N.J. / Blair Academy) scored two unassisted goals as part of a three-goal Scot run at the end of the third quarter to pull Wooster within 6-4 of No. 18 ranked Denison University, only to see the Big Red score twice during the opening 2:45 of the fourth, pulling away for a 10-5 North Coast Athletic Conference victory. Playing for the first time in 15 days, the Scots got off to a slow start, as the halftime deficit was 5-1 and it was 6-1 midway through the third quarter. Then, Gatsch got free for those back-to-back goals, followed by an unassisted score from Pat Coyne (Chatham, N.J. / Chatham). After Denison answered with two goals, Coyne found the back of the net again for a hat trick, as he had the team’s first-half goal, and an 8-5 game with 9:39 remaining. That would be all of Wooster’s scoring, though. Goalkeeper Matt Biester (Wallingford, Pa. / Strath Haven) kept the Scots within striking distance with 10 saves overall, highlighted by five in the second quarter. |
