The College of Wooster men's lacrosse team opened the 2000 season with a 12-9 victory at Wheeling Jesuit. The Scots led from start-to-finish, but had to withstand several rallies by the Cardinals.
After taking a 4-2 lead after the first period, Wooster went into halftime with a 5-3 advantage. The Scots expanded that lead to three at 9-6 in the third quarter, however, Wheeling Jesuit pulled within one on a 3-1 run. Wooster buckled down to score the game's final two goals to win its season-opener for the first time since 1997.
"We did a real nice job against a team that had already played three games," commented Scot head coach John McKechnie. "I fell like we're headed in the right direction this year."
Wooster's young attack line of sophomore Adam Price and freshmen Colin Hartnett and Ahren Olson combined to score eight of the Scots' 12 goals. Price had three scores, while Hartnett and Olson chipped in two goals apice.
In his first appearance in goal, junior John Park was awarded the game ball after stopping 17 saves.
