Men's Lacrosse Explodes for 21-1 Victory
After losing its first five outings of the season, The College of
Wooster men's lacrosse team unleashed its frustrations against an
overmatched Oberlin College squad, routing the Yeomen 21-1 to mark the
program's biggest margin of victory since 1995 when Wooster beat Marietta
College 25-3.
It was a mismatch from the outset, as the Scots scored nine goals
in the first quarter and went on to take an insurmountable 12-1 halftime
lead.
Leading Wooster's offensive explosion with seven points apiece were
sophomore Ahren Olson and freshmen Steve Burton and Mike MacMaster. Burton
and Olson each recorded six goals and an assist, while MacMaster scored
four times and added three assists.
Other major contributors in the win included junior Brandon Mohr,
as well as freshmen Tom Canfield, Hugh Benson, and Robert Koehler. Canfield
had three goals, Mohr produced a one-goal, one-assist outing, and Benson
and Koehler dished out four assists apiece.
For Oberlin, junior Mike Wexler had the lone goal.
Registering the win in net was senior John Park, who had four
saves, while junior David Smolev tallied 15 saves for the Yeomen.
The Scots, who now stand with a 1-5 overall record and .500 league
mark, will see if they can win their second in a row, when they travel to
Marietta College on Saturday, April 7, for a non-conference game, starting
at 1 p.m.
