Men's Lacrosse Falls to St. Vincent 16-6
The College of Wooster's youthful men's lacrosse squad lost its
fourth game in as many tries in 2001, falling 16-6 on the road to St.
Vincent College in Latrobe, Pa., on Wednesday (March 28).
Once again, Wooster, which has 11 freshmen and four sophomores on
its 19-man roster, struggled at the outset, as St. Vincent put up 10 goals
on the board at halftime to the Scots' two. It marked the third time this
season that Wooster has given up double-digit scores prior to the 30-minute
break.
The second half, though, was a different story with the Scots'
staying within striking distance, as each team scored three goals in the
third quarter to make it 13-5 game. But, the Bearcats put any thoughts of a
comeback away in the fourth period, as they controlled the ball and won
going away.
Individually, one of Wooster's bright spots once again was senior
goalie John Park, who came up with 23 saves, while facing 54 St. Vincent
shots, marking the second game in a row that he has saved more shots than
goals allowed.
Leading the Scot offense was freshman Mike MacMaster and junior
Adam Price, who scored a pair of goals apiece, while freshman Steve Burton
added a pair of assists.
Rounding out the scoring for Wooster was freshman Andrew Flethcher
and junior Brandon Mohr each with single goals, and sophomore Colin
Hartnett with an assist.
Seniors Ryan Elwell and Lucas Repka, as well as freshman Jeff
Rankey led the St. Vincent attack. Repka had six points coming on a goal
and five assists, Elwell scored a game-high five goals, and Rankey
registered a four-goal outing.
The Scots will try and get on the winning track again on Saturday
(March 31), as they will play at Kenyon College, starting at 1 p.m.
