Thirteen days after defeating Marietta College 15-1 at a tournament in N.C., The College of Wooster men's lacrosse team put on an even more dominating display against the Pioneers on Saturday (March 30). Wooster posted a 25-1 victory over its non-conference foes, marking the program's biggest winning margin since 1990, when the Scots crushed Virginia Wesleyan College by a count of 33-4.
Wooster (2-1), which had two games earlier in the week postponed due to the weather, bolted out to a 16-0 halftime lead and never looked back.
Steve Burton and Colin Hartnett scored six goals apiece to pace the Scots, while Mike MacMaster, the reigning North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week, found the back of the net twice and added five assists following his five-goal, six-assist effort against Marietta on March 17. Hartnett, a two-time honoree on the All-NCAC Team, contributed a pair of assists to lead all scorers with eight points.
Also registering multi-point games were Bobby Koehler, Brandon Mohr, Adam Price, and Eric Saulnier. Koehler scored three times and recorded two assists, Price had a perfect 4-for-4 shooting day, Saulnier blasted two shots into the net, and Mohr had one goal and one assist.
Andrew DeBord only needed to make seven saves in net for Wooster to earn his second career win.
For Marietta (2-3), Erik Lopez produced the team's lone goal and Scott Sojda made 24 saves.
