The College of Wooster men's lacrosse team slipped back to .500 (5-5) after losing 14-3 to a Wittenberg University squad that had revenge on its minds in North Coast Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon (April 27). Wooster, which scored two goals in the final 11 seconds for a thrilling 11-10 decision over Wittenberg earlier this year, fell behind early on Saturday. In fact, the Scots did not get on to the scoreboard until Colin Hartnett found Eric Saulnier for an open shot with :58 remaining in the first half. By that time, the Tigers (5-9, 2-3 NCAC) had built a seven-goal advantage. The second half played out in similar fashion, as Wittenberg won the third quarter 5-2, with Scot unassisted goals coming from Steve Burton and Hartnett, and prevailed 2-0 in the fourth. A bright spot in the setback came from goalie Andrew DeBord, who played well in making 10 saves. Wittenberg's Alex Nichols led all players with seven points on five goals and two assists, while two Tiger net minders combined for 17 saves. Next, Wooster will look to pull off an upset at home against Denison University (10-2, 4-0 NCAC) on Tuesday (April 30) at 4:30 p.m. |
