Eric McKinney

Eric McKinney led the Scots with two goals and one assist on Saturday.

The College of Wooster men’s lacrosse team scored four-straight goals during the second half to pull within four early in the fourth quarter, but Cabrini College held off the Scots to earn a 10-5 victory during Saturday afternoon’s non-conference match-up at Radnor, Pa.

Trailing 9-1 nine minutes into the third quarter, the outlook was bleak for Wooster. The Scots (2-3) rallied, though, scoring three times during a 4:11 span, with two of those goals coming from the stick of Shawn Handy.

Eric McKinney found the back of the net for the second time on the day just 1:41 into the fourth, which made it a 9-5 game. However, Cabrini (2-3) stopped the Scots’ rally cold, as it held them without a goal the rest of the way while adding a late insurance score.

The Camels’ eight-goal, first-half outburst turned out to be too much to overcome.

Chris Vaccaro accounted for Wooster’s other goal, while registering assists were Ben Abbott, Andy Boylan, and McKinney.

Leading Cabrini was Mark Phillips, who had three goals and one assist.

Statistically, the two teams actually finished dead even on shots (35-35), but Camel goalkeeper Kevin Quinn was up to the task, making 19 saves. The Scots used one goalie in each half, including freshman Matt Biester, who made five saves compared to two goals allowed in the second.

Next, the Scots will make their home debut on Easter Sunday against Whittier (Calif.) College. Opening face-off at John P. Papp Stadium is scheduled for 1 p.m.
