Eighth-Ranked Lynchburg Sends Scots Packing with 14-4 Loss
The College of Wooster men's lacrosse team suffered its second loss this season to a nationally-ranked opponent, losing 14-4 to No. 8 Lynchburg College in non-conference action in Lynchburg, Va. The Scots fall to .500 on the season at 2-2, while the Hornets keep their record perfect at 5-0. Wooster held the lead for most of the first period as junior Shawn Handy netted an unassisted goal at 13:13. However, Lynchburg's offense came alive with under three minutes remaining in the stanza, as three Hornets found the back of the goal to gain the advantage. Handy assisted on Hisham Hassan's power-play goal to open the second period and scored twice more in the period himself, but each time the Scots cut the lead to one, the Hornets pulled through with a score of their own. After holding a 5-4 advantage at the end of the second period, Lynchburg went on a 9-0 run to close the game and send the Scots home with their second loss to a ranked opponent this year. Wooster also lost to then-No. 19 Geneseo State University 16-1 to open the season. Handy led the Scots with four points on three goals and one assist, while also accumulating three ground balls. Alex Morriss picked up an assist on one of Handy's goals, and added three ground balls. Billy McCulloch led the Hornets with seven points coming on four goals and three assists, while Ryan Cranston and Brian McCulloch tallied three and two scores, respectively. Next up for Wooster is another non-conference affair at Cabrini College on Saturday, March 19, at 1 p.m. |
