Four-Goal Run Late in Third Quarter Keys Wooster's 14-8 Win
The College of Wooster scored four goals over a 3:04 stretch, as part of a seven-goal third quarter, which paved the way for a 14-8 victory at Adrian College in non-conference men’s lacrosse action Wednesday night. Wooster (6-1) got out to a commanding 6-1 lead midway through the second quarter, but Adrian (1-6), a first-year varsity program, did not go away. The Bulldogs tallied two goals during the final five minutes of the opening half and carried that momentum over, as they connected on another just 1:36 into the third quarter to pull within 6-4. It was still a two-goal margin at 8-6 late into the third, but then the Fighting Scots’ offense went on a roll. Mark Weschler started the flurry with an unassisted score at the 5:37 mark, and just 26 seconds later, he assisted on a Conor Hannan goal. Weschler would find the back of the net again, this time on a man-up opportunity with 4:25 remaining in the third, and Hannan tacked on another goal less than two minutes later for a six-goal cushion (13-7). The fourth quarter was quite from an offensive standpoint, with each squad adding one to their tally. Hannan produced a career game, as the senior attacker scored four goals. He had just one previous hat trick in his career. Weschler matched him with a four-goal outing, and they each passed one assist as well. Additionally, Matt Pullara posted two goals and one assist while winning 14-of-20 face-offs, Cole Simmons recorded two goals, and Alex Mies led all players with three assists. Adrian received a four-goal, one-assist effort from Ryan Knautz. Defensively, Wooster utilized two goalies, with Calvin Todd playing the final 24:33, during which he made eight saves, including seven in the fourth quarter, compared to just three goals allowed. The Scots will be back in action next Wednesday at traditional North Coast Athletic Conference power Ohio Wesleyan University (4-4, 1-0 NCAC). Game time is slated for 4:30 p.m. |
