WOOSTER, Ohio – Tim Lee scored with 3:30 remaining to break an 11-11 tie and The College of Wooster’s defensive unit prevented Colorado College from getting any quality shots the rest of the way, as the Fighting Scots secured a thrilling 12-11 non-conference victory in men’s lacrosse action at a cool, rainy John P. Papp Stadium Sunday.

Wooster (7-2) never trailed, even leading 8-3 at one point. However, Colorado College (5-4) charged back, tying it twice, with the last coming at the 7:38 mark of the fourth quarter when Toby Cohen netted his third goal.

Lee’s game-winner would come almost exactly four minutes later, as he made amends for a penalty earlier in the fourth quarter, which led to a Colorado College score. The goal by Lee also came on a man-up opportunity, converting on an opening on the right side after receiving a pass from Alex Mies, who was stationed behind the net.

It was all Scots early, as they had constructed a 7-2 cushion early in the second quarter. Mark Weschler scored three of those, with the last one being a behind-the-back, highlight-reel goal. After the Tigers finally stopped a four-goal Wooster run with one of their own, Weschler then assisted on a Conor Hannan score, making it an 8-3 game.

Colorado College quietly crept back into the game, closing the first half with two scores to pull within three (8-5). The Tigers carried that momentum over into the third quarter, netting a pair within the first 3:04. A Mies unassisted goal interrupted Colorado College’s rally, but only briefly, as the Tigers would get the next two to tie the game for the first time at 9-9.

The Scots answered with Weschler’s fourth goal at the 2:18 mark of the third quarter and then Pat Coyne added a key goal with 11:27 to play. Again, Colorado College responded, connecting on two more goals to knot the score at 11 and set up the exciting final moments.

In addition to Weschler’s five-point day, Mies played an integral role in the win with the one goal and three assists. Coyne added two goals and Lee had an early assist as Wooster’s other multiple scorers.

Cohen paced the Tigers with a hat trick, plus two assists, and Hunter Combs also threw in three goals.

Defensively, Matt Biester made 11 saves to help preserve the win, while his counterpart, Scott MacArthur, tallied eight stops.

Next up for the Scots is a trip to Washington & Jefferson College (3-7) Wednesday night.
