Scots Conclude Regular Season with Comeback Victory Over Kenyon

The College of Wooster utilized two big quarters Saturday afternoon at a rainy McBride Field in Gambier, Ohio, outscoring host Kenyon College by a combined 7-2 count during the second and fourth quarters. With the 9-7 come-from-behind victory, Wooster moved to 11-3 overall and 2-3 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, while Kenyon falls to 10-3 overall and 3-2 in the conference.

The Scots jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead on goals by Chris Gatsch at 12:11, and Conor Hannan at 9:54, but Kenyon scored :41 later and tacked on a late goal late in the first period, knotting the score at the end of 15 minutes of play.

Wooster maintained a 5-3 halftime advantage, as Tim Lee tied a season-high with three goals, all coming during that second stanza. He was aided by a pair of assists from Pat Coyne, and a helper by Matt Pullara.

Trailing by two at the intermission, Kenyon came out of the halftime break on fire in the third, firing eleven shots to Wooster’s four. The Lords scored three goals in the third stanza and held the Scots scoreless, as Kenyon gained the momentum back into their favor, owning a 6-5 advantage heading into the fourth.

Wooster tied the game at the 11:27 mark on an unassisted goal by Coyne, but the Lords jumped back on top less than 30 second later. The Scots took over from that point with goals by Gatsch, Graham Zimmerman, and Mark Weschler over the final 6:27, keeping Kenyon off the scoreboard over the final 11:02 for the conference win.

Offensively, Lee recorded a career-high four points on his three second-quarter scores, and tallied an assist on Hannan’s first period goal. Coyne finished with three points on a goal and two assists, while Gatsch collected two goals and Weschler added a goal and a helper. Devin Caitlin paced the Kenyon attack with two goals and an assists, and Zach Wallace tacked on two goals.

In net, Matt Biester was credited with eight saves for the Scots, while Kenyon’s David Page picked up 10 stops.
