Brian ConawayBrian Conaway (Twinsburg, Ohio / Twinsburg), who helped lead The College of Wooster to a share of the 2004 North Coast Athletic Conference men’s soccer championship, was named to the Academic All-District First Team, announced the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Thursday. By earning first-team within the district, he will move on to the ballot for Academic All-American® honors, which will be announced on Nov. 22.

Conaway, a junior forward for the Scots, is the NCAC’s top scorer with 31 points on 12 goals and seven assists this year in 15 matches for an average of 2.07 points per game. Entering the postseason, he’s produced goals in nine of the last 11 matches, while helping Wooster ascend to a national ranking of No. 20 in NCAA Div. III.

For his career, Conaway, a two-time all-region and first-team all-conference honoree, has already totaled 75 points, including 31 goals, which puts him on pace to finish among the top-five scorers in school history.

A computer science major, Brian is the son of Ed and Patty Conaway.

This weekend (Nov. 5-6), Conaway and his teammates will be competing for an automatic berth into the NCAA Div. III Tournament, as the Scots are hosting the NCAC Tournament for the third year in a row. On Friday, Denison University (11-6) will face-off against NCAC co-champion Ohio Wesleyan (16-2-1) in the first semifinal at Carl Dale Memorial Field, starting at 11 a.m., while the top-seeded Scots will host Allegheny College (9-7-1) at 2 p.m. The NCAC Tournament championship match will be Saturday at 1 p.m.

The 2004 academic all-district men’s soccer team consisted of 11 members, all of whom are key players with minimum 3.20 grade-point averages from the college division (NCAA Div. II and III, and NAIA) in Wooster’s five-state area (Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee). The honorees were determined by a vote by CoSIDA.
