The College of Wooster menęs soccer team, tied for fourth in this weekęs NCAA Div. III Great Lakes regional rankings, is aiming to maintain its perfect record when it hosts a pair of games this week. First, Wooster welcomes Marietta College (1-3) to Carl Dale Memorial Field on Tuesday, Sept. 12, for a 5 p.m. start. The Scots are 7-3-4 all-time against the Pioneers, the most recent meeting being a 3-1 Wooster victory in 2005. On Saturday, Sept. 16, the Scots will finish the final leg of their season-opening five-match homestand when they host John Carroll University (0-2-2). Wooster is 8-9-1 in the series against the Blue Streaks, with John Carroll earning one-goal decisions during their two meetings thus far of the 2000s (2-1 in 2004 and 1-0 in 2003).

Last Week: The Scots won their only contest of the week, improving their record to 3-0 for the first time since the 2001 season.
On Sept. 9, Wooster prevailed 2-1 in an evenly-played contest with visiting Otterbein College, as Tim Presto (Wadsworth, Ohio / Wadsworth) converted a penalty kick during the 73rd minute to provide the winning margin. The Scots had taken a 1-0 lead, behind Scott Buckwaldęs (Seville, Ohio / Cloverleaf) first collegiate goal during the 23rd minute. The freshman forward was assisted by classmate Karl Ruter (Glenview, Ill., / Glenbrook South) on the play, marking the latteręs third point of the season. Otterbein, which suffered its first loss of the year (3-1), tied the game in the 69th minute, but just 3:45 later, the Scots were awarded a penalty kick after a foul by the Cardinal goalkeeper and Presto delivered for his third career goal. Otterbein had a series of quality runs at the goal during the final 10 minutes, but Erik Larson (El Paso, Texas / Stony Point) and the Wooster defense stayed steady to preserve the win. Larson had five saves for the match.
