Presto a First-Team Academic All-American
Tim Presto (Wadsworth, Ohio / Wadsworth), a senior defensive standout for The College of Wooster, was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America First Team for men’s soccer, announced the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Monday. Presto, one of just 11 within the College Division (NCAA Divs. II and III and NAIA) to be voted first-team, is the first men’s soccer player in school history to be an Academic All-American®. A mathematics major, Presto was one of the Fighting Scots’ top defensive players once again in 2006. He received honorable mention on the All-North Coast Athletic Conference Team, marking his second career all-conference distinction (second-team as a junior). Presto was a key part of a backfield that shutout eight of 16 opponents, averaging 0.88 goals allowed per game, and he also made an impact on the offensive end, ranking as Wooster’s fifth-leading scorer with one goal via a penalty kick and two assists for four points. Academically, Presto has made Dean’s List five times and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, one of just 28 juniors at Wooster last year to be elected into the prestigious honor society. For his career, Presto, who is also a middle distance runner on the Scots’ track team, started 53 of the 60 games he played on the soccer pitch, helping Wooster to a 44-13-9 record (.739) from 2003-06. With Presto on the field, the Scots posted 31 shutouts the last four seasons and were conference co-champs in both 2003 and 2004. Created in 1952, the Academic All-America Teams program now annually honors 816 male and female student-athletes who have succeeded at the highest level on the playing field and in the classroom. Individuals are selected through voting by CoSIDA, a 2,000-member organization consisting of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. |
