Scots Play Nationally-Ranked Earlham Tight
The College of Wooster men's soccer team played its best match of the year, but was unable to finish on top in its homecoming match on Sept. 25 as it lost 1-0 to 20th-ranked and undefeated Earlham.
The Quakers, who now stand at 9-0-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the NCAC, were stymied by the Wooster defense in their first North Coast Athletic Conference match of the season. The Scots also maintained a strong offensive attack and actually outshot Earlham, 13-5.
After a scoreless first half, Wooster did its best to capitalize on some scoring chances but was unable to do so. The Quakersß Michael Mele was able to put a goal past Scot junior goalkeeper Adam Wegner on one of their few scoring opportunities of the afternoon. With 14 minutes remaining in regulation, Mele fired a shot from the extreme right side of the field into the upper left corner of the net, giving Earlham the only goal it needed.
