Wooster Men's Soccer Loses Physical Match to Heidelberg

The College of Wooster men's soccer team lost a 6-2 decision to Heidelberg yesterday afternoon in a match that featured 20 fouls, five yellow cards, and one red card.

The Fighting Scots, who had a four-match unbeaten streak entering the game, struck first with a goal from freshman Kurtis Dilyard just 65 seconds into the match. Dilyard was assisted on the play by sophomore Colin Berdzar. Heidelberg responded, however, and went into halftime with a 2-1 lead.

The Student Princes added another goal early in the second session to gain a 3-1 advantage. Wooster cut the Heidleberg lead to one with a goal from sophomore forward Josh Bammel with 31:54 remaining in regulation. Bammel's sixth goal of the season came off a penalty kick that had been awarded to Wooster. In the final 30 minutes, the Princes, who outshot the Scots 11-4, added three goals to come away with the victory.

Wooster, which now owns a 2-2-2 record, will host John Carrol in a non-conference contest on Wednesday, Sept. 22, at 4:30 p.m.
