Wooster Men's Soccer Routs Lake Erie

The College of Wooster men's soccer team dominated Lake Erie yesterday afternoon at the Carl Dale Memorial Field in Wooster and came away with a 4-0 victory. This marked the Scots second win of the season and their first at home.

Wooster was in control from the very start of the match as it scored two goals in the first 15 minutes of action. In fact, Scot sophomore Dan Kelly scored the first goal less than five minutes into the match when freshman Corey Humphrey passed the ball horizontal to the goal, givng Kelly a chance to tuck the ball neatly into the corner of the net. Sophomore Eric Ferguson capitalized on another scoring opportunity just a few minutes later as he fired the ball just under the crossbar.

The second stanza was virtually a replica of the first. The Scot offense led by Kelly and Ferguson scored twice in the first eight minutes of the half. In the 51st minute, Kelly scooped up a pass from freshman Ryan McManus and scored. Then, three minutes later, Ferguson scored off an assist from sophomore Dave Badger. Lake Erie put up a good fight for the remainder of the match, but could put the ball past Scot goaltender Adam Wegner. The 6-1, 190-pound junior made five saves en route to his first shutout of the season.

"It was an all-around solid performance," remarked Scot head coach Graham Ford after the game. "We played simple soccer and it was very effective."

The Scots, who moved their record to 2-1-2 on the season, will play at Heidelberg in a non-conference contest on Saturday, Sept. 18, at 3:30 p.m.
