Wooster Falls To Muskies In Overtime

Fresh off its best match of the season, a 1-0 loss to 20th-ranked Earlham, the Fighting Scot men's soccer team was hoping to use that momentum to defeat Muskingum on Sept. 28. But, the Muskies scraped out a 2-1 victory despite being outshot by Wooster 16-13.

The Fighting Scots, who have now dropped four matches in a row, got on the scoreboard first on an unassisted goal by junior Adam Evans just over 15 minutes into the contest. Muskingum answered with 5:57 remaining in the first half on its only shot in the first 45 minutes of action. After a Wooster defender was called for a foul inside the Scot penalty box, the Muskies' Josh Boyer fired a penalty kick into the net.

In the second half, the two teams combined for 19 shots, but each goaltender was up to the task of stopping the ball. Scot sophomore Ben Wooten, who was making his first career start in goal, ended up with five saves on the afternoon, while Muskingum's Steve Crawford also made five saves.

The first 15-minute overtime passed without a shot. But 91 seconds into the second overtime, Colin Biddle's first goal of the season gave the Muskies the victory.

Wooster, which saw its record fall to 2-5-2, will next play a North Coast Athletic Conference contest at Wittenberg on Saturday, Oct. 2, at 2 p.m.
