The College of Wooster men's soccer team came away from its home opener on Wednesday (Sept. 6) with a 5-1 victory over Baldwin-Wallace.

With their third win in as many tries this season, not only have the Scots nearly equaled their victory total from all of last season (four), but they have now scored 14 goals so far in 2000, which is more than half of the 27 goals that they tallied in 20 matches last year.

Leading the way against the Yellow Jackets were forwards Colin Berdzar and Kurtis Dilyard, who each scored a pair of goals. Dilyard, a sophomore, started the scoring frenzy just six minutes into the match, while Berdzar, a junior, gave Wooster a 2-0 lead late in the first half.

Between the 57th and 69th minutes of the match, the Scots exploded for three goals, starting with a score from the leg of sophomore midfielder David Brock, and followed by tallies from Dilyard and Berdzar. Baldwin-Wallace was able to prevent the shutout in the match's 70th minute.

Registering an assist apiece in the win were sophomore midfielders Ryan McManus and Adam Zimmerman.

Adam Wegner, a senior, played the first 70 minutes in goal for the Scots, making five saves and not allowing a goal.

Wooster continues its three-game home stretch with a pair of non-conference contests this weekend, as it takes on Anderson on Saturday (Sept. 9) at 1 p.m., and hosts Carthage on Sunday (Sept. 10) at 1 p.m.
