Men's Soccer Picks Up First NCAC Win

Adam Wegner recorded his first shutout of the season and also recorded an assist.
Dan Kelly and Adam Wegner led The College of Wooster's men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Kenyon College in a North Coast Athletic Conference match on Wednesday (Sept. 20) that was suspended in the 81st minute due to a severe thunderstorm at Carl Dale Memorial Field.

Kelly, a junior forward, scored both goals, while Wegner, a senior, registered a rare assist by a goalkeeper and recorded his first shutout of the 2000 season.

In the first half, Wegner booted a long punt to Kelly, who converted a long shot to give Wooster a 1-0 lead. Kelly's team-leading seventh goal came during the second half on a pass from sophomore midfielder Adam Zimmerman.

Defensively, Wegner made five saves on the afternoon.

The host Scots improved their overall mark to 5-1-2, topping their entire win total from last year, and are now 1-1-0 early in the conference season, while Kenyon slipped to 1-4-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the NCAC.

Wooster hopes to pick up its second league win when it travels to Hiram on Saturday (Sept. 23) for a battle with the Terriers, starting at 2 p.m.
