The College of Wooster men's soccer team has already matched half of its win total from last season after defeating Lake Erie 3-1 Saturday afternoon in Cleveland, Ohio, to capture both games of the Case Western Reserve Tournament.
The Scots, which knocked off Thiel 6-1 on Friday, have won the first two games of a season for the first time since 1992, when it opened the year 5-0 en route to a 13-7 record and its last appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
The Scots got on the board first when sophomore Ryan McManus converted a penalty kick in the first half. In the second half, sophomore David Brock scored unassisted, while junior Dan Kelly scored with an assist from sophomore Andrew Lewellen to give Wooster a 3-0 lead. Lake Erie avoided the shutout with a late goal.
In goal, Adam Wegner stopped three shots while playing all 90 minutes for the second straight day.
Statistically, Wooster completely dominated Lake Erie, outshooting the Storm 20-6.
The Scots open their home schedule on Wednesday, September 6, when they host Baldwin-Wallace at 4:30 p.m.
