The College of Wooster men's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to eight matches (including two at the end of last season) on Wednesday afternoon (Sept. 11) by cruising past winless Lake Erie College 6-0 in Painesville, Ohio.
Wooster, now 5-0-1 in 2002, distributed its scoring evenly, finding the back of the net three times in each half. The Scots' freshman phenom Brian Conaway began the onslaught with his team-leading fifth goal during the 10th minute of action. He was assisted by classmate Ben Stone. Shortly thereafter, Brian Goche and Kurtis Dilyard knocked in their second goals of the year with assists coming from Andrew DeBord and Conaway, respectively.
It was more of the same in the second half. Wooster first-years Mark Ballinger and Matt Craig combined on two goals, with Ballinger passing off to Craig for a score first and then Craig helping out on Ballinger's tally, which made it 5-0. Junior Andy Rugaiganisa capped the scoring with another assist from Craig.
In goal, Scot freshman David Treleven saw little action, making one stop on the afternoon.
Wooster will next face its toughest test yet of the young season, as it will host Calvin College (4-1), ranked eighth in the Great Lakes Region, on Saturday (Sept. 14) at 1 p.m.
