Adam Milligan

Adam Milligan scored two goals against Capital, including the game winner 7:42 into the first overtime.

It took a two-goal, second-half comeback, but The College of Wooster men’s soccer team extended its remarkable regular season unbeaten streak to 23 matches on Tuesday (Sept. 2), as the Scots defeated Capital University 3-2 in overtime at Columbus, Ohio.

Adam Milligan’s second goal of the non-conference contest, assisted by fellow starting forwards Jung Kim and Brian Conaway, was the game-winner 7:42 into the first extra session. Milligan and Conaway accounted for all three Wooster scores.

The Scots, who were coming off a late Sunday afternoon double-overtime tie at Marietta College, came out a bit sluggish on Tuesday. Capital’s Michael Baughn scored back-to-back goals during the opening 14:07 to give the Crusaders control.

Wooster fought back in the first half, actually winning the shot battle 10-8, but found itself endanger of its first regular season loss since 2001, down 2-0 at the half.

Conaway, the 2002 North Coast Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year, came out firing early in the second half, as one of his three shots on the day found the back of the net for the first goal of his sophomore campaign, bringing the Scots within striking distance. Conaway, who was shutout of the scoring column during a pair of season-opening matches, had 10 goals as a rookie.

Milligan, who assisted Conaway’s goal, helped extend the match into overtime, as his goal with 14:13 remaining in regulation knotted things up at two.

Overall, Wooster outshot Capital 21-11, and goalie David Treleven made five saves to earn the win.

Next, the Scots will play under the lights on Saturday night (Sept. 6), traveling to Alliance, Ohio, for their third consecutive match against an Ohio Athletic Conference opponent, this time Mt. Union College (1-1). Game time is set for 7 p.m.
