Craigs Goal Lifts Scots to NCAC Win Over Oberlin
Sophomore forward Matt Craigs first goal of the season was all The College of Wooster needed to win its second North Coast Athletic Conference match of the year, downing visiting Oberlin College 1-0 on Saturday (Oct. 4) in mens soccer action at Carl Dale Memorial Field. Craig, who totaled seven points as a freshman but had been held scoreless through nine games in 2003, emerged from a scramble in front of the Oberlin goal during the 68th minute and his shot just right of center nestled into the back of the net. Wooster (5-2-3, 2-1-0 NCAC) made it stand up, as its defense limited the Yeomen (4-5-2, 1-2-0 NCAC) to five total shots. Sophomore goalkeeper David Treleven was only forced to make one save to preserve the shutout, while Oberlins Lincoln Smith stopped five Scot attempts on goal. Wooster does not play again until next Saturday (Oct. 11), when it travels to Denison University (11-0, 2-0 NCAC), which was undefeated heading into its Saturday night showdown with perennial NCAC power Ohio Wesleyan University. |
