Milligans Four-Point Match Leads to 3-0 Scot Win
WOOSTER, Ohio With just under 30 minutes to play in Tuesdays non-league mens soccer match, Case Western Reserve University had an opportunity to tie The College of Wooster at one. But the visiting Spartans were unable to convert on a penalty kick and the Scots went on to control the rest of the game, eventually securing a 3-0 victory at Carl Dale Memorial Field. Wooster (3-1) actually scored the only goal it would need just over a minute into the contest, when the Scots forced a foul during an early run into the box, resulting in a penalty kick. Adam Milligan easily fired the ball inside the left post, marking his second goal of the young season. There werent many other scoring opportunities for either side in the first half, as Wooster it with a 5-0 shot advantage. After another quiet 15 minutes to start the second half, it appeared that Case would knot things up, when the Spartans earned a penalty kick. However, Scot goalie David Treleven covered up a low attempt just a few feet to his left. Wooster used the momentum from that point, mounting one offensive run after another. Two of those resulted in goals, with the first coming in the 68th minute on a Milligan-to-Tyler Bosch score. Milligan drew most of the defense to the right side of the field and then threaded a pass over to an open Bosch, who netted his first career goal. The third and final score was very similar to the second, as Milligan got most of the attention from the defenders before crossing it to David Damon on the left, and Damon finished it off, marking the seniors third career goal. Overall, the Scots took 15 shots to the Spartans one, as Treleven made just the one save to earn his first shutout of 2004. Cases Chad Skidmore tallied six saves. Wooster has over a week off before its second-to-last non-conference game, which will be next Wednesday, Sept. 22, against Mt. Union College (1-3-1) at 5 p.m. |
