Brian Conaway

Brian Conaway recorded his fourth game-winning goal of the season against Denison.

WOOSTER, Ohio — For the third time this year, Brian Conaway and Adam Milligan each recorded a goal as the College of Wooster men’s soccer team defeated Denison University 2-0 today in North Coast Athletic Conference action. The Scots improve to 8-1 overall and a league-best 3-0. Denison falls to 5-5 and 1-1 in the NCAC.

Through the first 45 minutes of play, the game remained scoreless, although Wooster consistently attacked the goal, taking six first half shots and forcing five corner kicks. Nine minutes into the second half, at 54:27, the Scots finally made good use of an opportunity as senior David Damon booted a shot up over a defender and Conaway flew through the air and headed the ball over Denison’s goalie and into the back of the net. The assist was Damon’s first of the season, while Conaway tallied his fifth goal.

Not to be outdone, Milligan sealed the game at 72:48, as the senior split two defenders and took a shot from the right side that sliced past the goalkeeper. The score was Milligan’s team-leading seventh this fall and moves him into a tie for third-place on Wooster’s all-time list with 37.

The game marked the sixth time both Conaway and Milligan have recorded goals in the same game. Wooster owns a perfect 6-0-0 record in those contests.

Denison had several other opportunities to cut the lead but Scot goalie David Treleven prevented the Big Red from getting on the board. The junior made four saves on the day and recorded his fourth shutout of the year.

The Scots resume NCAC play this Saturday, Oct. 9, when they travel to Kenyon College for a match-up with the Lords at 2:00 p.m.
