John Carroll Edges Scots for Second Consecutive Year
John Carroll University scored twice in a five-minute period in the first half en route to prevailing 2-1 over visiting College of Wooster on Saturday night (Sept. 11) in non-conference men’s soccer action. It is the second-straight season that the Scots have dropped a one-goal decision to John Carroll, as the Blue Streaks ended Wooster’s 24-match regular season unbeaten streak last year with a 1-0 victory. John Carroll (3-0), currently ranked eighth nationally, opened the scoring during Saturday’s 15th minute, when Kevin Pap kicked in a rebound shot. Alex Bernot was credited with an assist on the play. The Scots (2-1) quickly fell behind 2-0, following the conversion of a penalty kick by Milko Cecez in the 20th minute. Despite facing an uphill battle, Wooster had its chances. Overall, the Scots outshot the Blue Streaks 13-10. Wooster’s lone score came with 42 seconds remaining, and was courtesy of senior defender/midfielder Chris Sirois, who headed in a corner kick from junior forward Brian Conaway. It marked Sirois’ second career goal. Defensively, the Scots’ David Treleven made four saves, while John Garber had three for John Carroll. Wooster will make its home debut Tuesday (Sept. 14) against Case Western Reserve University (2-2), with opening kickoff slated for 5 p.m. |
