Adam Milligan

Prolific scorer Adam Milligan started his senior season with a goal and an assist at the Marietta Soccer Classic.

The College of Wooster won the men’s portion of the Marietta Soccer Classic this past weekend (Sept. 4-5), defeating the two other teams in the event – Carthage College (2-1 in overtime) and host Marietta College (3-1).

Against Carthage, senior forward Adam Milligan provided the winning margin by converting a penalty kick in the first extra session. D.J. Snell, another senior front liner, had initially put Wooster ahead 1-0 on his fourth career goal, which was assisted by junior Brian Conaway, but the Redmen came back to tie it. Overall, the Scots had 10 shots to Carthage’s five.

On Sunday, Wooster avenged back-to-back ties to the host school at the last two Marietta Classic’s, as the Scots won going away after exploding for three goals in the opening half. Junior midfielder Andrew Etter started things by scoring his second career goal with an assist from Milligan. Nate Little, a junior and defensive-oriented midfielder, followed with his first career goal, thanks to an assist from sophomore Steve Schott. Clarkson Dzapasi closed out the scoring barrage with a penalty kick conversion, which marked his first career goal. Wooster had a 20-7 shot advantage in that one.

Next, the Scots will face-off against John Carroll University (2-0) on Saturday night (Sept. 11) in University Hts., Ohio, at 7 p.m.
