Milligan, Conaway Lead Scots Over Mt. Union
Adam Milligan and Brian Conaway combined for three goals and an assist to lead the College of Wooster men’s soccer team to a 4-3 victory over Mt. Union in non-conference action today at Carl Dale Memorial Field. With the win, the Scots improve to 4-1-0 on the season. Wooster started the scoring, as senior Clarkson Dzapasi entered the game at 25:32 and less than a minute later found the back of the net for his second goal of the season. Mt. Union answered back at 31:18 with a score of their own when Kyle Prock took the ball out for a corner kick and sliced the shot around the side of the goal and just off the fingertips of Scot goalie David Treleven to tie the score at 1-1. The remainder of the first half and the first 30 minutes of the second half remained quiet, as both teams jockeyed for field position but neither getting a clear advantage. The turning point of the game came at 76:53 when junior Jung Kim made a move on the left side of the goal but was fouled by a Mt. Union player. Milligan was given the task of shooting the penalty kick, and just like the senior did a week ago against Case, slapped the shot past the Purple Raider’s goalie to put Wooster ahead 2-1. The offenses came alive for the last 15 minutes of the game, as the two teams combined to score four goals over seven minutes. Conaway found Milligan for his second score of the game at 79:36 to push the Scots’ lead to 3-1. It was Conaway’s third assist of the season. Exactly one minute later, Mt. Union answered back as Bill Kotinsley headed in the corner kick from Prock to bring the score to 3-2. Conaway sealed the deal for Wooster when he broke away from two Purple Raiders and maneuvered the shot around the Mt. Union goalkeeper for his first score of the season. Prock and Kotinsley answered back at 86:20, but Mt. Union’s offense couldn’t get off another clean shot before the end of regulation, giving Wooster the win. The Fighting Scots will take on Heidelberg College in a non-conference affair on Saturday, Sept. 25, for their final tune-up before NCAC action starts next week. |
