Wooster goaltender David Treleven stopped a penalty kick by Ohio Wesleyan's Ryan Martin in the first half of Wooster's 2-0 win.

WOOSTER, Ohio – Brian Conaway opened the 2004 North Coast Athletic Conference men’s soccer season in style Wednesday afternoon, scoring a pair of goals to lead The College of Wooster to a 2-0 victory against No. 17 ranked Ohio Wesleyan University at Carl Dale Memorial Field.

It marked the Scots’ second regular season win in a row over Ohio Wesleyan.

On his first score, which came 22:16 into the league lid-lifter, Conaway was in the right place at the right time. He knocked in a rebound shot after fellow forward Adam Milligan had hit the right post on a scramble in front of the net. Milligan was credited with an assist on the play, while defender/midfielder Adam Chapman also played a key role during the sequence, keeping Wooster on the attack after the Battling Bishops failed to clear the ball.

It remained 1-0 until the 63rd minute, when the Scots were awarded a direct kick after Conaway was fouled on a run towards the goal box. He then hooked the ball around Ohio Wesleyan’s wall, placing the ball perfectly into the upper right corner of the net.

The Bishops (7-2-1) had controlled much of the action during the first 10 minutes of play, including earning a penalty kick at the 6:38 mark. However, Wooster’s David Treleven was up to the task, moving a few feet to his right to stop Ryan Martin’s attempt.

Overall, Ohio Wesleyan held an 18-11 shot advantage, however, many of its balls went well high or wide, as Treleven made seven saves to preserve the Scots’ second shutout of the season.

Wooster continues its conference schedule this Saturday (Oct. 2), as it travels to Earlham College (2-6-0, 0-0-0 NCAC) for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
