WOOSTER, Ohio — Freshman Brenton Allen and junior Tim Presto connected on second-half goals Wednesday afternoon to lift The College of Wooster men’s soccer team to a 2-0 win over Case Western Reserve University at Carl Dale Memorial Field. Both scores were the first of their respective careers.

After a quiet first 45 minutes, which saw Wooster (5-1-2) get off just two shots, the Fighting Scots were on the offensive for most of the second. A little over five minutes into the stanza, a Wooster breakaway led to a corner kick. The Scots sent the ball into the box, where Case (5-3-1) was unable to clear it, and eventually there was a flurry of activity right in front of the net, with Allen volleying in his own rebound after his initial shot bounced off the ‘keeper’s hands.

With just under 20 minutes remaining in regulation, one of the Spartans’ players was issued a red card – one of three cards awarded to Case – thus allowing Wooster to play a man-up the rest of the way. The Scots eventually took advantage in the 80th minute when Brian Conaway hit a cross into the box towards a streaking Nick Waychoff, who was fouled upon the ball’s arrival. Awarded a penalty kick, Presto drilled it into the lower right corner to seal the victory.

The Spartans outshot Wooster 12-6, however, only five of their attempts were on goal. Sophomore Erik Larson, seeing his first career action, played the second half in net for the Scots and came up with three saves, including a diving one during the 87th minute to maintain the shutout.

Wooster will play North Coast Athletic Conference matches for the remainder of the regular season, starting with a trip to first-place Wabash College (4-6, 2-0 NCAC) on Saturday.
