The College of Wooster men’s soccer team was up to its usual tricks Tuesday afternoon, as following another scoreless opening half, the Fighting Scots scored twice early in the second and coasted home to a 2-0 victory at Hiram College in North Coast Athletic Conference action. Through 10 matches in 2005, Wooster has scored in the first half just twice, compared to 12 goals after halftime.

Hiram (4-8, 0-3 NCAC), which nearly pushed nationally-ranked Ohio Wesleyan University to overtime in its previous match, held a slight shot advantage during the opening 45 minutes (5-3).

Then, the Scots (7-1-2, 2-1-0 NCAC), behind the play of Brian Conaway, steadily took control in the second half. Just 1:26 into it, the senior forward assisted on freshman Brenton Allen’s second goal in less than a week. There was actually a double-assist on the play, as Jason Bowie picked up the first helper of his career. About 13 minutes later, Conaway booted in his team-high seventh goal this fall, with an assist coming from Nick Waychoff. Conaway now leads the league with 18 points and increased his career total to 93.

Defensively, David Treleven made a game-high four saves on eight Terrier shots, and his counterpart, Nathan Rausch, tallied three saves while facing 10 shots from Wooster.

The Scots continue their quest for a third-straight NCAC championship this Saturday when they host Earlham College (2-7, 0-2 NCAC) at 2:30 p.m.
