Conaway Nets Late Goal to Give Scots 2-1 Win
The College of Wooster scored once early and once very late, as Brian Conaway’s goal with just 45 seconds remaining proved to be the match-winner in the Fighting Scots’ hard-fought 2-1 victory over host Otterbein College Saturday afternoon in Westerville, Ohio. The two squads appeared to be destined for overtime until Conaway received a pass in the 90th minute from freshman Nate Florian, then made a one-on-one move to beat a defender and drove a hard shot into the Otterbein net. It marked Florian’s first collegiate assist. Conaway had helped Wooster to a 1-0 lead during the fourth minute, as he crossed the ball to sophomore Kyle Janiga for a one-touch into the goal, marking Janiga’s first career score. The Cardinals (2-1-1), who ended up with a 16-10 shot advantage, tied the match in the 75th minute via a Justin Lewis goal. Goalkeepers David Treleven of the Scots and Jordan Guhl of Otterbein each tallied six saves. Wooster will put its early unbeaten record on the line when it opens at home this Wednesday against Calvin College (3-1). |
