Conaway Leads Scots to Double Overtime Win at Wabash
CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. — Senior Brian Conaway came through in the clutch once again for The College of Wooster, netting his third match-winning goal of the fall just over a minute into the second overtime at Wabash College to propel the Fighting Scots to a 2-1 win in North Coast Athletic Conference men's soccer action. The win evened the Scots' conference record at 1-1-0, and improved their overall mark to 6-1-2. The Little Giants (4-7-0, 2-1-0 NCAC) controlled the offensive end of the contest, firing off 18 shots for the game, including 10 in the first quarter, to Wooster's eight, but it was the visitors who drew first blood. At 31:50, Conaway recorded his team-best third assist of the fall, finding junior Tim Presto for the score, his second this season. Wabash retaliated quickly, netting its only score of the game just five minutes later as Justin Herd booted a corner kick in front of the goal and Ryan Leagre slammed the ball home to knot the game at 1-1, which is where it stood at the half. Wooster took five shots in the second half with none finding its mark as Little Giant goalie Will McAdams made all three of his saves in the period. Likewise, Scot 'keeper David Treleven made two of his game-high five saves in the stanza to keep the score deadlocked at the end of regulation. In the first overtime, Wabash had three shots miss their mark, with Treleven stopping the only attempt on goal. Wooster managed no shots in the first overtime, sending the game to a final period. Just over a minute into the second overtime, Conaway put the match to a final resolution. At 101:42, he took a pass from freshman Nick Waychoff and beat the defense to the goal for his team-best sixth score of the year, giving Wooster the win on the road and handing the Little Giants their first league loss. Next up for the Scots is a road trip to conference foe Hiram College (4-7-0, 0-2-0 NCAC) on Tuesday, Oct. 4, at 4:30 p.m. |
