Case Western Reserve University scored in double overtime to become the first team to knock off The College of Wooster in men’s soccer this season, as the Spartans prevailed 1-0 over the Fighting Scots late Tuesday night in Cleveland, Ohio. Earlier in the day, Wooster received notice that it was ranked in the NCAA Div. III coaches’ poll for the first time this year, coming in at No. 18.

Case (8-0-1) and Wooster (7-1) battled to a scoreless tie until R.J. French booted in the game-winner 3:18 into the second extra session.

The Scots fired off 10 shots, all in regulation, but could not get one past Konrad Karasek, who was credited with six saves. Erik Larson posted eight saves on 16 Spartan shots while suffering his first loss as the starting goalkeeper.

Wooster will look to bounce back Saturday afternoon when it hosts No. 3 Ohio Wesleyan University (7-0, 1-0 NCAC) at 3:30 p.m.
