Scots Remain Perfect With 1-0 Win at Muskingum
For the first time since 1990, The College of Wooster men’s soccer team is off to a 6-0 start following the Fighting Scots’ 1-0 non-conference victory Wednesday at Muskingum College. Wooster has begun seasons with extended unbeaten streaks recently, including just last fall when it went 4-0-2 and in 2002 when it didn’t suffer a loss throughout the regular season (15-0-3), but the Scots were involved in ties early on those years. On Wednesday, Wooster won its sixth one-goal match in as many tries, with Karl Ruter providing the lone score during 53rd minute. The freshman midfielder took a shot from inside the box that glanced off the left post and then into the net for his third goal. Muskingum (4-3) outshot the Scots 20-9, but Erik Larson was there for seven saves en route to his third shutout and second in a row. Wooster starts its quest for a North Coast Athletic Conference championship this Saturday with a road match at Earlham College (4-2, 0-0 NCAC) at 2 p.m. |
